The design making competition was held in the CWICTRC on 15th February 2009. To generate curiosity among the population and attract the children of Chanderi to the centre a drawing contest was organized. The event attracted around 200 people who came from all ages and backgrounds. Uzma Shahin was awarded the first prize for her effort.

The Chanderi Weavers’ ICT resource was formally inaugurated on February 9th, 2009 by Sh. Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, Union Minister of State for IT and Communications, Government of India. The Guests of Honour included eminent bureaucrat Smt. Geeta Mishra, District Collector, Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh; Sh. Bhupender Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles; Sh. A K Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Textile; Sh. EVKS Elangovan, Minister of State for Textiles; Sh. R Chandrashekhar, Special Secretary, IT, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), Sh Jainder Singh, Secretary DIT and MCIT; and Sh. E K Bharat Bhushan, Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor, DIT and MCIT.

Nestled in the picturesque Vindhyachal valley and situated in the Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh, the town of Chanderi is famous world over for its magnificent weaves. The town also hosts the occasional sightseer since it is interspersed with more than hundred monuments, both religious and secular, which stand in testimony for its glorious and eventful past.  Chanderi can best be described as a rural town with an urban consciousness. Weaving is the source of livelihood for more than 60% of its population, while the rest are engaged in agriculture, biri making, stone quarring and tertiary occupations.
