Facilities

The Chanderi Weavers’ ICT Resource centre is equipped with 20 machines, out of which 10 machines are high – end, installed with superior designing software which will be used for training the weavers. The other 10 machines are low end and are used for training students in basic ICT skills. The centre also has a laser printer, a fax machine, a scanner and broadband.

The stitching and apparel designing division, which is an integral part of the centre, is equipped with 5 sewing machines, a drawing frame, a drawing table and other design related equipment. It will facilitate the process of value addition by incorporating women into its fold and teaching them the twin process of stitching and apparel design, so that they are able to produce ready made garments in conjunction with market trends.

Along with imparting technical and vocational training, the centre also functions as a cyber café. It will soon have an in – house showroom where the magnificent weaves of Chanderi will be on display and on sale.

The centre, which is presently located….will be shifting soon to the Rajmahal, after an agreement with the state government and The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).

Through the medium of these facilities, the centre aims at adding value to the existing skills of weaving and textile design so that the weavers can produce finished products instead of raw material.  The weaver will therefore be the creator and designer as well as the beneficiary of his toil. The youth of Chanderi will benefit immensely from this initiative by acquiring ICT skills and basic English language skills, both written and spoken.
